Samsung was one of the first major smartphone manufacturers to target the folding display devices technology. It did make sense since the company is a champion in the displays department. Now, a couple of years into the technology and we see Samsung leading the curve. We do believe that as new participants enter the field, we may see certain competition rise up. Samsung though leads the pack by almost a generation. Now, we have the Fold2 in front of us and while it lacks much originality from the first generation, they have sort of perfected the fold. On to the next generation and we are still unsure what the transition may hold. An article from SamMobile sheds some light on some exclusive news regarding the company.
According to the article, they add that there are two new renditions that the company may be working on. A source from the company that manufactures the displays shows that Samsung may be working on a trifold design. As apparent from the image at the top, the company may work on a device which features a trifold design to offer a bigger screen altogether for a proper, portable tablet experience. Now, this holds many caveats to it. Firstly, since the device would have three devices, how thick would it be. Right now, the Fold2 is considered a thick boy according to current standards. Not to mention, how would they manage the battery and the folding mechanisms.
Other than that, there was some news on a rolling display device as well. This is a cylindrical device from which you can pull out an OLED panel to be used as an on-desk tablet. This doesn’t seem quite a farfetched idea since LG already did something similar with their rolling TVs displayed earlier. Of course, we will still have to see how the company decides to take this since the Fold3 would be the target of focus this time around.
