Samsung‘s next flagship phone is still months away but the first round of leaks and rumors is already here. Samsung Galaxy S22 will most likely launch in January of next year so the good folks over at Galaxy Club sensed everyone’s hunger and gave us something to fulfil our appetite. While this isn’t exactly the very first leak pertaining to the S22, it’s certainly one of the more prominent ones.
Galaxy Club was able to get their hands on a list of all the color options coming to the Galaxy S22 family. While the design of the phone will be largely an incremental upgrade, Samsung will launch new color options to visually distinguish the new models from last year’s. The Galaxy S22 and S22+ will have the same color options while the S22 Ultra will get a slightly different treatment.
Speaking of which, the Galaxy S22 and S22+ will be available in:
- Pink Gold
Whereas, the S22 Ultra will be offered in these colors:
- Dark Red
As you can see, we have the standard affair of the black and white colorways on both the Ultra and standard versions of the S22. These will most likely be identical to their S21 contemporaries. The “Pink Gold” color in the S22/S22+ could mimic traditional rose gold but with a pinkish hue, similar to what we saw on the Galaxy S7 back in the day. On the other hand, the green color could be similar to the green we see in Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3.
To me, the most interesting color out of these seems to be “Dark Red“. We have not seen a dark red flagship device from Samsung since the S9 days. The “Burgundy Red” Galaxy S9 was a very unique color option back then as it was starkly different from the infamous Product (RED) color in the iPhones. Samsung’s red was almost a maroon color with a blood red tint.
Samsung has obviously released phones that come in red color options since the S9, most notably the Phantom Red S21, but none of them have had the Dark Red colorway in specific. Apple releases a Product (RED) phone almost every year but Samsung shuffles their color options each year to keep it fresh. So, it will interesting to see how Samsung revives this color in their new flagship.
That being said, don’t hold your horses as this list is not a confirmation. First of all, this is a leak so it should be taken with a grain of salt. Secondly, there’s still a lot of time between now and the phone’s supposed release of January 2022 so things could change in the meantime.
Moreover, Samsung caters to a lot of markets and likes to segments its products between them. A prime example of this is how some regions get the Exynos version of their phone while some get the Snapdragon version. Therefore, it stands to reason that Samsung will release certain colors to specific markets only and not worldwide. Case in point, the aforementioned Burgundy Red S9 never made it to the US; it was limited to only Chinese and South Korean markets.
Samsung Galaxy S22 will mark the debut of the Exynos 2200 SoC developed in partnership with AMD as it has an RDNA 2-powered GPU. Some markets will get the Snapdragon 898 variant of the phone. Both the Ultra and the standard versions of the S22 are set to feature a hole-punch selfie camera, but where the S22 Ultra packs a 108MP quad-camera setup on the back, the S22/S22+ only come with a 50MP triple-camera setup.
