Infinity Ward’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 launched nearly ten years ago. The game is one of the most beloved installments of the series, and fans have long called for a remaster. After much waiting, it looks that a remaster of title is due to release in 2019.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Remastered
As reported by Gematsu, a PEGI listing for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered was found earlier today. The listing was swiftly taken down, but not before keen-eyed fans noticed. You’re probably wondering why the listing specifically says ‘Campaign’. Although it’s yet to be confirmed, it’s likely that the remastered game will not feature a fully-fledged multiplayer.
Apart from it’s name, the PEGI listing doesn’t give us much to go on. Alongside a PlayStation 4 tag, there’s a stamped release date which obviously isn’t correct. It’s unclear if this means that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Remastered will be a PlayStation 4 exclusive. As the remaster of the first Modern Warfare launched on both PC and consoles, it’s unlikely that Activision will change its approach.
The remaster of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, which released in 2016, featured both campaign and multiplayer. The multiplayer aspect of Call of Duty games has always been their highlight. However, Activision’s current direction directly conflicts what the leak suggests. Call of Duty: Black Ops 4, the latest installment in the franchise, does not include a single-player campaign. For this reason, it would be very odd to see the Modern Warfare 2 remaster launch without a multiplayer component.
However, another argument could be that Activision is planning to launch a standalone multiplayer remaster. While it’s quite unlikely, it would make sense since Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer is something that millions of gamers have nostalgic memories of.
If the leak is at all true, then we should expect an official announcement very soon. As usual, take this information with a grain of salt.
