Rockstar Confirms It’s Working On GTA 6 With Development “Well Underway”

After what has seemed like an eternity, Rockstar has come forward and acknowledged the existence of GTA 6 at last. Since 2013, Rockstar has milked GTA 5 to its bones but it seems like the time to retire the cow is finally here. The company has released a new newswire blog post regarding the future of Grand Theft Auto in which a small section is dedicated to what’s coming next. Sure enough, it’s talking about GTA 6.

With the unprecedented longevity of GTA V, we know many of you have been asking us about a new entry in the Grand Theft Auto series. With every new project we embark on, our goal is always to significantly move beyond what we have previously delivered — and we are pleased to confirm that active development for the next entry in the Grand Theft Auto series is well underway. We look forward to sharing more as soon as we are ready, so please stay tuned to the Rockstar Newswire for official details.

Now, this doesn’t really come as a surprise as we’ve had about a bajillion leaks, rumors and reports claiming all sorts of things about the next GTA entry with many of them stating that the game has been in development for years. But, it’s nice to finally get official confirmation from Rockstar itself that it’s working on a new mainline GTA game for the future.

It remains to be seen if the game will, in fact, be called GTA 6 but with currently no official title, we can only call it that. Plus, it wouldn’t make sense to change up the naming scheme after all these years of sticking to one. Rockstar didn’t provide any more info on the matter, therefore keep your ears peeled. This statement also indirectly confirms that GTA 6 is Rockstar’s next game with their full force behind the project, so sorry Bully and Red Dead fans.

Rockstar mentioned in their blog post that they’ll share more details as the year moves along but don’t expect the game to release anytime soon. However, them saying that development for the game is “well underway” is definitely a good sign that we may get a huge update soon. Finger crossed for an announcement or perhaps even a trailer at E3 this year.
