A few weeks back, we reported that Nvidia might release another SUPER graphics card. Previously, it was speculated that it would be another high-end graphics card aimed at the PC master race. The rumors then led to the SUPER version of a mid-range graphics card. Since we already have an RTX 2060 SUPER, the obvious choice would be a non-RTX graphics card. Now, Nvidia already has a ton of Turing based graphics card that does not support DLS and Ray Tracing in the mid-range market. As reported earlier, another graphics card in the same league may potentially be harmful to Nvidia itself.
We have already seen that Nvidia is more than willing to risk its sales to flaunt their dominance in the mid-range market. According to videocardz.net, the GTX 1660 SUPER may arrive in October. The report claims that sources from ASUS have confirmed that the said card is indeed in production.
Coming to the specifications that the SUPER graphics card may offer. It will use the same GPU core as the GTX 1660 already available in the market. Which means it will have a total of 48 rendering output units, other than this a total of 1408 CUDA cores will be present. Though the GPU Nvidia is using the same as the GPU used in the GTX 1660, it is natural to expect that the clock speeds will be a little higher. It will not make much difference in the performance, but Nvidia requires some grounds to differentiate the products.
The only difference in terms of the specification is the use of better video memory. It will use 6 Gigs of GDDR6 clocked at 14Gbps. Comparatively, GTX 1660 is equipped with GDDR5 memory clocked at 8Gbps and the GTX 1660Ti comes with GDDR6 memory clocked at 12Gbps. The GPU core is the only major improvement offered by the GTX 1660Ti.
Lastly, there is no word regarding the pricing of the graphics card. It will serve as the middle ground between the GTX 1660 and GTX 1660Ti. It makes the price differentiation a difficult task for Nvidia. The GTX 1660 and 1660Ti are only $50 apart, and the GTX 1660 SUPER is not going to replace any of them. A reasonable guess for the price could be $249. We may expect a decrease in the price of the GTX 1660 too.
