Red Dead Online, the multiplayer mode of Red Dead Redemption 2, will be launching as a public beta soon. Although no official release date has been shared yet, a few leaks have popped up which give us an idea of what to expect from Red Dead Online. Discovered by RockstarIntel, Red Dead Online will feature at least 3 game modes, including horse racing and dueling.
Red Dead Redemption 2’s horse control mechanics are a lot more fleshed out than its predecessor, probably because lots of fans have requested horse racing to be a feature. For example, the new ‘horse drifting’ functionality lets you make sharp turns quickly while riding.
The other game mode for Red Dead Online which can also be found in GTA Online is ‘Mission’. It’s unclear how this mode will work, but it will probably be similar to GTA Online’s missions. The leak also mentions ‘Deathmatch’ as a game mode, which is to be expected considering it was included in the first game. Based on this, we’ll probably be seeing a team deathmatch mode in Red Dead Online.
That’s not all, however, as some newly discovered input parameters all sharing the “MULTIPLAYER” keyword hint towards some interesting features. Notably, ‘Respawn’, ‘Inform Law’, ‘Duel’, ‘Parley’, ‘Feud’, ‘Leader Feud’, and the most interesting one ‘Predator Ability‘ are referenced within the input parameters. Their functionality is yet to be detailed, but most of them are self-explanatory. Similar to the GTA Online post-death options, players can challenge each other to duels, and there is probably a “passive mode” style functionality, too.
On a more speculative note, both intro cutscenes of Red Dead Redemption 2 and GTA Online feature a prison breakout, meaning that a GTA Online style character creation menu will likely be part of Red Dead Online. Judging from how similar the two online modes are shaping up to be, don’t be surprised if microtransactions make an appearance in Red Dead Online.
