Microsoft has finally introduced read receipts in Skype Insider Preview Build 8.26.76 this week. Users had suggested that it was probably the only application that did not still have this feature and Microsoft must now introduce it. Now Skype users can keep a track of who has read their messages. This feature is also available for Android 6+ and iOS 10+ devices. For desktop clients, it is available in Linux, Mac and Windows. Currently, Microsoft is busy testing the latest features with Skype Insiders across various platforms.
How does the feature work?
According to Karah on Microsoft forums, “Read receipts let you see who’s seen your messages at a glance. When someone reads your message, their avatar appears beneath it in Skype chats enabling you to see how far someone has read in the conversation without tapping on every message.”
The feature for now is available only for one-on-one conversations and in group chats that have members up to 20 people. Also, the read receipts will only work if the person that the user is chatting with is also running the updated Skype Insider Preview Build.
The post from the Microsoft moderator also mentioned, “The feature is available in 1:1 conversations and group chats with 20 or fewer people. This feature is available just for Insiders, so you can test it with your contacts who are also on the latest Insider build.”
How can the feature be enabled and disabled?
The read receipts feature can also be opted out of. Those who are not comfortable with the sending of read receipt messages, the feature can be disabled by going to Settings > Privacy > Read Receipts. Setting the status as ‘invisible’ can also disable this feature.
