When PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds launched back in March 2017, it only featured one playable map. The developers have since added four new playable maps, but Erangel hasn’t received much love. As such, the original map is getting a full rework, complete with updated visuals, a new vehicle, and a “ledge grabbing” movement mechanic.
A new movement mechanic called ledge grabbing will allow players to reach places they weren’t able to before. Ledge grabbing is an ability which can be used by jumping towards a ledge. By doing so, the player will automatically grab it and pull themselves up.
The BRDM is a new amphibious armored vehicle. The four-wheeler has “excellent physical protection” and can be driven across both land and sea, making it one of the game’s best strategic vehicles.
During its recent development update, the PUBG team unveiled a rework of the game’s first map, Erangel. With the launch of the upcoming season four, Erangel will receive a full visual update.
“As our first map, Erangel holds a special place in our hearts, so we’re pleased to announce this update to fans.”
Judging by the short showcase video, the overhauled map looks amazing. Hopefully this visual update is exactly what Erangel needs to be on par with the other maps.
As a multiplayer game with a heavy focus on gunplay, PUBG needs to stay on top of weapon balancing. As such, one of the developers’ core focus is regularly changing how guns work.
In addition to in-game changes, the PUBG team wants to improve the “out-game experience”. This refers to non-gameplay mechanics such as the progression system, weapon mastery, and rewards. As the weapon mastery feature was well-received by fans, the developers are planning to bring a similar progression system that focuses on the survival aspect of the game.
The updated version of Erangel will go live on the public test servers this weekend. The developers will share more information about season four in the coming days.
