Here Are Your Free PlayStation Plus Games for May 2022

Just yesterday, we covered the Dealslab leak going over the free PS Plus games for the month of May and today PlayStation had made that list official. As expected, yesterday’s leak was legit and everything we learned yesterday remains the same here. There are three games part of next month’s lineup, as usual, one of them is a PS4 only game while the other two are playable on both the PlayStation 4 and 5.

This month, PlayStation Plus subscribers get FIFA 22, Tribes of Midgard, and Curse of the Dead Gods as May’s free games. The FIFA 22 you get here is not the PS5 version of the game but the PS4 version, though it’s playable on the PS5 thanks to backwards compatibility. Tribes of Midgard is also playable on both PS4 and PS5, however Curse of the Dead Gods is only available for the PlayStation 4.

FIFA 22 – PS4 and PS5

There really isn’t much to say here as we all know what FIFA is. You’re getting the latest and greatest from EA SPORTS, whether you like it or not. Yes, yearly FIFA releases being glorified DLCs is still true as FIFA 22 is virtually unchanged from FIFA 21, at least visually. Though, there is a neat little bonus involving the FUT (Ultimate Team) attached with PS Plus and it can be just the incentive needed to win you over.

PlayStation Plus members can use the PlayStation Plus FUT Pack for FIFA 22 Ultimate Team to build a new Ultimate Team or boost a current one. This bundle comes free with your download of FIFA 22 and contains 11 players rated 82 or above to help you build your dream team in FIFA 22 Ultimate Team, as well as an Icon Moments Loan Player Pick, which allows you to choose from some of history’s best players and add one of three to your squad for five games.

Tribes of Midgard – PS4 and PS5

Tribes of Midgard is an isometric action game that was released back in 2019, developed by Norsfell Games and published by Gearbox. The game combines the survival and ARPG genres into a vibrant co-op or solo adventure set in the world of Norse mythology. As an Einherjar, you and your tribe of up to ten players will need to guard the Seed of Yggdrasil from evil forces bent on bringing about Ragnarök.

You and your friends will have to journey out into Midgard’s wilderness to acquire the resources, materials, and hidden riches needed to forge new weapons, epic armor, and fortify your hamlet. The game has a beautiful art style that heavily resembles Genshin Impact, so if you’re into that sort of visuals, this is the perfect game for you. The game also offers a nice challenge for those looking for one, especially if you choose to go solo throughout the whole journey.

Curse of the Dead Gods – PS4

Last but not least, Curse of the Dead Gods is another action RPG, a dungeon crawler to be exact, played from an isometric perspective. In the game, you advance through various dungeons filled with dangerous enemies and atmospheric graphics. More importantly, the game incorporates rouguelite elements and relies on them quite heavily. There are several interesting mechanics but none as fun as the “Curse Meter“.

The Curse Meter is essentially the polar opposite of a traditional health meter. Instead of depicting your HP, it actually encapsulates how much of a devil’s advocate you really are. For instance, it increases every time you buy an item in game with your own blood instead of gold. The Curse Meter hinders your character’s normal abilities making it harder for you to face the enemies, presenting an extra layer of challenge and fun. Despite being a PS4 only title, the game launched fairly recently in February of 2021 and is developed by Passtech Games.

The free games for May 2022 will be available to download beginning May 3rd through June 5th. Last month’s games can still be downloaded from the PlayStation Store up until 2nd May. As a reminder, this is also the last chance you can get Persona 5 from the PS Plus Collection as the game leaves the lineup on May 11. So, if you haven’t already added the game to your library, do it now before it goes away for forever.
