With no plans for a Half Life 2 sequel visible on the horizon, fan-made Half Life 3 projects are the only remaining options. Project-AC, a work in progress Half Life 3 project, is a modification for Half Life 2 based on the Marc Laidlaw’s Epistle 3.
Currently under development by Alexander Chernyak, Project-AC borrows many story elements from the famous Epistle 3 fan fiction written by Marc Laidlaw. While the mechanics of the game remain the same, the Half Life 2 mod introduces new elements to fit with the extended story. In this story mod, players can expect to see new models, textures, shaders, game levels, non-player characters, and possibly new weapons. Developed in Source Engine 2013, the client side dynamics of the game will not be modified.
The development team has shared approximately 9 minutes of in-game footage of mod on Youtube, check it out below:
The footage seen above is all from a pre-alpha build of the game, meaning that any features seen above may be changed during development. Take all of the information with a grain of salt, as the final build of the mod may look completely different. Currently, Project-AC has no release date, and its entirely possible that the mod never finishes development. Regardless, thanks to these fan-made projects, die-hard fans of the Half Life series will always have something to look forward to.
The mod listing for Project-AC is live on ModDB, and will be available to download once it has released.
