Prices and Availibility Of Nvidia GeForce RTX SUPER Graphics Cards Leaked: Populous Market Is Getting More Dense

Nvidia released a mysterious teaser focusing around the word “SUPER” a few days ago. At first, it was believed that Nvidia would be releasing a cut down version of the Titan RTX for the consumer market at a competitive price. Later, the leaks suggested that Nvidia is planning to release a whole family of Super GPUs sometime after the E3 2019. Fairly credible source and the plethora of leaks around the later news suggested that Nvidia is going to shift the balance of the GPU market.

Before we get into the details of the news at hand, let’s have a look at our GPU market. The high-end segment is streamlined with two offerings from Nvidia and a single one from AMD. The higher mid-end and the lower mid-end market are fairly populated at the moment. AMD still has its old RX 500 series graphics cards in the market whereas Nvidia has many GTX and RTX graphics cards depending upon the presence of Tensor and RT cores. The low-end spectrum is also reasonably stable with a few offerings from AMD.

Now according to the latest leaks, Nvidia is releasing three graphics cards under the SUPER SKU. These include RTX 2080 SUPER, RTX 2070 SUPER, and RTX 2060 SUPER. The presence of RTX 2080 SUPER will not cause any problem as the high-end market is relatively stable. The RTX 2070 and 2060 SUPER can cause a lot of trouble for both consumers and competitors. AMD Radeon RX 5700 and RX 5700XT will be available in the market next month. The addition of these graphics card will populate the already crowded mid-end section of the market. Which means the Nvidia will have to set the prices of these graphics cards carefully.

It turns out folks at Videocardz have got the information regarding the pricing and specification of these graphics cards. It should be noted that Nvidia is planning to release these graphics cards in July.

Turing architecture

RTX 2080 SUPER

Based on the previous information, the Nvidia GeForce RTX 2080 SUPER will use full TU 104-450 GPU. It means the graphics card will have 3,072 CUDA cores. The increase in the raw CUDA core count is minimal, considering the fact that vanilla RTX 2080 contains 2,944 CUDA cores. The video memory they are using in this version is the same 8GB GDDR6 module with a 256-bit interface. The clock speed the memory is slightly higher at 15.5Gbps, which results in a total bandwidth of 496GB/s. It will be priced at $699, which is $100 less than the MSRP of the RTX 2080.

It can be inferred that the RTX 2080 will get a considerable price drop after the SUPER RTX 2080 releases in the market.

RTX 2070 SUPER

RTX 2070 will also be getting a slight spec bump under the SUPER SKU. It will be using the cut down version of the TU 104 GPU, which is referred to as TU 104-410. The specifications include a total of 2,560 CUDA cores, 320 Tensor cores, and 40 RT cores. The raw core difference is minimal in the case of RTX 2070 too. The VRAM they are using stays the same, they are using an 8GB GDDR6 module clocked at 14Gbps. The bus-size stays the same at 256-bit, which means the total bandwidth is 448GB/s. It will be priced at $599 which is also $100 less than the current price of RTX 2070.

The new price is still more than the price of its direct competitor AMD RX 5700XT. Though we still have to see what the latter will be capable of when it releases in July.

RTX 2060 SUPER

The RTX 2060 SUPER is getting the most significant specification bump compared to the other cards in the SKU. It will be utilizing the full TU106-410 GPU which means the total CUDA core count moves up to 2,176 with 136TMUs and 64 ROPs. It would also feature 272 Tensor cores and 32 RT cores. The most significant jump here is the move from 6GB GDDR6 memory to 8GB GDDR6 memory. The apparent reason for this move is the hefty competition from AMD at this price point. The bus size is also increased from 192-bit to 256-bit, which means the total memory bandwidth is the same as the bandwidth of the RTX 2070.

The RTX 2060 is the only graphics cards in the SUPER family that is priced higher than its counterpart. The price is $50 more than the vanilla RTX 2060. It will be priced at $399.

Availability

Nvidia recently tweeted the SUPER teaser with a caption “the wait is almost over” which can only mean we will be getting these shiny pieces of hardware very soon. According to the leaks, RTX 2070 SUPER will be launching on 9th July followed by the RTX 2080 SUPER on 23rd July. The launch date of the RTX 2060 SUPER hasn’t leaked yet. One may guess that the graphics card will not be released until the start of August. We can only speculate at this point. Nvidia may decide to release all of them simultaneously.
