A PlayStation enthusiast envisioned what the PS1 versions of present PS4 and PS5 game covers might look like. A Reddit user going by the username M_S_1 posted several pictures in which PS4 and PS5 game covers were transformed into PS1 games.
A couple of the photographs show the game’s official cover, while others show various pieces of art. M_S_1 posted 16 photos, most of which were first-party games with a few well-known third-party games. Beginning with Nate and Sam resisting pirates in Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, the post then features Bloodborne, Death Stranding, and two Ghost of Tsushima covers.
The Last of Us Part 2 and other well-known first-party AAA titles are also featured. M_S_1 chose to include Yakuza: Like a Dragon, Red Dead Redemption 2, and Resident Evil Village among other third-party games. Fans may see several interesting elements in these pictures, such as the Sony Computer Entertainment logo from before it changed to Sony Interactive Entertainment. Many of these games ESRB ratings were correctly included by the user, and as a consequence, the covers now seem more realistic.
Users expressed their admiration and appreciation for the covers in the comments, with one remarking that the Bloodborne picture seems to be a legitimate PS1 cover. However, another fan claimed that M_S_1 had only degraded the quality of the artwork, at least for the logos of each game. Another participant made an amusing remark about how many drives each game would need because many contemporary games demand a lot of storage.
Since the PS5 was introduced in November 2020, PlayStation has made several exclusive releases. The platform debuted with high-profile games like Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales and Demon’s Souls, and the following summer saw the release of Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart and Returnal. The platform has come a long way from its past and the recreation of titles’ game covers does show the extent of progress made.
