Outriders, a new game by Polish studio People Can Fly, will not be launching next month as expected. Instead, a free demo containing the first few hours of the game will be available February 25th. The new release date for the sci-fi co-op RPG is April 1st 2021.
“We believe it’s important that players get to experience a new IP like Outriders before release, so that you can decide for yourselves whether the game is something you wish to pre-order, purchase or play,” reads a new update post.
“For this reason, we’re excited to announce that on February 25th 2021 we will be publishing a free demo, giving everyone the chance to play the first few hours of the game with all four classes – in both single player and co-op – along with seamless migration of your character and progress to the full game.”
If you are unfamiliar with Outriders, the game is a third-person, drop-in-drop-out co-op shooter set in a dark and desperate sci-fi world. The game features a total of four classes, though only three players can play together at a time as the developers found it to be the “sweet-spot for balancing, optimization and visibility.” In total, the game offers approximately 25-30 hours of gameplay within the main campaign alone. However, combining side-quests, post campaign and additional campaign content will double or triple that number.
The upcoming free demo will give players a taste of what to expect from the full game when it launches on April 1st. Outriders fully supports cross-play between all supported platforms, and owners of the game on current-gen consoles will get free upgrades to next-gen consoles. The Outriders development team notes that they will use this additional time for “fine tuning the game and focusing on delivering a fantastic play experience at launch”.
Outriders launches on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X and Series S, Google Stadia, and PC on April 1st, 2021.
