It hasn’t been many days since the Samsung camp had information about its upcoming devices leaked. According to the reports, Samsung would be opting for a 120Hz panel. This is the general trend in the industry. We saw one of the first smooth displays by Razer and OnePlus. Variable refresh rate screens are the new trend. With that said, some exciting news about the company has surfaced.
According to Ice Universe’s Tweet, OnePlus held a screen technology communications meeting. In the meeting, the company discussed the future of the display technology that may feature in upcoming devices. While the screenshot revealed is in Chinese, we can decipher it to an extent. To put the long story short, OnePlus wants to optimise displays which feature a 2K panel (a Quad HD display) which refreshes at 120Hz. It would obviously be an OLED panel. This may be perhaps on par with the Samsung panels which we’ll see in the coming months. What the company aims to do differently is with the touch responsiveness.

Touch responsiveness refers to the touch of the finger being registered by the sensor on the device. Currently, most devices use either a 60Hz touch responsive system or a 120Hz one. What OnePlus is announcing is that with these new displays, not only would they look liquid smooth, but they would register responses smoothly as well. The company would accomplish this by adding a 240 or above Hz touch response system. It would certainly set them aside from the competition.
This holds a bunch of questions with it though. How would OnePlus manage power with these new pieces of hardware in the device? Would this mean another price hike in the not-so-budget friendly OnePlus devices? Lastly, it is still unsure if we’d see these developments in the upcoming devices but perhaps time will tell for sure.
