Well the wait for a lot of us is over, OnePlus finally revealed the OnePlus Nord and it looks terrific on the whole value front. Let’s start with the specs then!
So the phone actually comes in three variants 8+128GB, 12+256GB, and the cheapest 6+64GB option. This is all UFS 2.1 storage. Apart from the storage and ram options all of them sport the same hardware underneath. The Nord sports a Snapdragon 765G, which is very close to the Snapdragon 845 in raw performance but does bring a lot of new features from the recent flagship processors like 5G. On the display front, OnePlus settled with a 6.44-inch 90Hz 1080p AMOLED display. You also get 180Hz touch sampling with an in-display fingerprint scanner.
My only gripe here is the omission of wireless charging, with the Nord you get the usual OnePlus dash charging. The phone does have a big 4115mAh battery, so this should easily last through a whole working day and more. The phone lacks a 3.5mm audio jack so no wired audio here. They did just announce the OnePlus Buds, so there’s that.
The great thing here? It has the same primary camera module on the back as the OnePlus 8. If you have an OnePlus 8 or have seen reviews, the hardware is really good, it’s definitely not flagship level but it comes pretty darn close.
Coming to the nitty-gritty details, the Nord has a Quad camera setup with an 8MP ultra-wide lens, a 48MP primary lens with OIS (Sony IMX586), a 5MP depth sensor and a 2MP macro lens. On the front, there’s a dual-cam setup with a primary 32MP lens (Sony IMX616) and an 8MP secondary ultra angle lens.
Clearly for Nord, OnePlus focused a lot on the cameras, even at the cost of some other options like wireless charging and an IPX rating for water and dust resistance.
Sadly, OnePlus is not going for a worldwide launch with the Nord (for now!) and availability is pretty limited. They have skipped the US market and instead plan on releasing it in Asia and Europe (refer to the picture).
- The first variant is the 6GB RAM and 64GB storage. This device would only be available in Grey Onyx color and would start shipping from September. The device would come at INR 24,999 or about 292 Euros
- The Next would be the one with 8GB RAM and 128GB of storage. This would be the only model available in the Blue Marble option (my favorite). This would come in at INR 27,999 or about 327 Euros
- Lastly, we have the beefy option with the 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. Like the base model, it is only available in the Grey Onyx color as well. This would be coming in at INR 29,999 or about 350 Euros (The most expensive one in the bunch)
Both the 8GB and the 12GB variant would be available from the 4th of August while the cheaper version would be available in September.
