OnePlus Officially Announces the “OnePlus TV”

As covered before, OnePlus’ smart television is in the news. There are, and have been, many rumours flying around in the tech community regarding the upcoming product. Today, there was a big announcement to the saga that is OnePlus’ product.

It was just today that Carl Pei, the co-founder of OnePlus, retweeted a post from OnePlus’ main account. The tweet by OnePlus revealed the official name for its upcoming smart TV. Named as the OnePlus TV, OnePlus tells a story behind the logo what it means and represents. The tweet further links a thread from OnePlus’ official forum. Over there, the entire community is introduced to the mechanics behind the logo and the progression.

A while back there was a competition/ poll of sorts held in which OnePlus asked users for a potential name for the TV. Today they confirmed that it would be the OnePlus TV. In the post, the company explains that while there were many other, equally good options, the OnePlus TV was simple and true to its roots. Just like their first smartphone, the OnePlus One, this is just that. Secondly, the science behind the logo is explained.

In the post, they explained that there is twice as much a gap in the “TV” and the OnePlus Logo as there is in the logo and the “1” itself. Then, the gap between the “V” and “T” is 4 times less than the gap between the Logo and the “TV”. This creates a geometric progression, showing eventual and inevitable growth to the product. This is exactly what they went with, with the name OnePlus.

While this was a very dramatic way to romanticize a simple name, it was a smart move by the company. Not only did it manage to announce its upcoming product and create all this hype, but, it instilled in the user’s mind the name “OnePlus TV”. This repetitive endorsement would allow the product to stand out even before it hits the market. Though we’d still have to see what the final product would look and be like as physical aesthetics have still not been revealed by the company.
