OnePlus is Apparently Working On a SmartWatch

In the world of smartwatches, there are three kinds of devices. There are the Apple Watches, exclusively for Apple devices. Then come the Android Smart Watches, either powered by Google’s WearOS or the respective companies custom firmware. Lastly, there are hybrid smartwatches. These, although give basic functionality like notifications, don’t have a proper UI and are often regular watches.

While Apple does lead the industry standard for a complete smartwatch, on the Android side of things, the options are weirdly bleak. No product gives a full experience. But, despite that, we see new companies and existing ones come out with excellent new products. Such is the case, according to a Tweet by Ishan Agarwal, there may just be a new contender in the market.

According to his tweet, OnePlus has an idea for a smartwatch lodged deep into its research and development phase. While this does sound like excellent news, the tech blogger reports that this is still in very primitive stages and we may not see a product for some time, if it does make it to the market. He believes that it may come to the market by the end of 2020, otherwise, will be delayed to the year after the next.

While that is the case, there are several implications for this news. Firstly, if we look at OnePlus’ track record, we may just see a very budget friendly, feature filled smartwatch. Additionally, it may just be the watch to support Android WearOS in its native form. Not to mention, with its features, set by precedent and the price tag, it would be an amazing package. For Android users, it may just be the smartwatch everyone is looking for. Hopefully, we’ll get more updates in the days and months to come.
