OnePlus is Apparently Looking Forward to its Own Foldable Phones

Smartphones have really matured over the last decade. From the clunky keypads to phones with Quad HD displays. But now, there’s some stagnation, and it isn’t entirely clear what’s next for the industry. Foldables seem like a great bet for now, and several companies like Samsung, Apple, and Huawei are already working on it. There will likely be another entrant soon, as OnePlus CEO showcased something interesting on his Twitter handle.

OnePlus CEO Pete Lau recently showcased pictures of what looks like mechanism for a foldable device. The foldable move could make sense for OnePlus, given the foldables category is dominated by $1500+ devices. OnePlus is known for flagship killers, which are comparatively cheaper devices with top shelf specs. If they could replicate something like this for foldables, they can stand to gain a very strong initial foothold in the category.
Also, the development of the foldable might not be that difficult for OnePlus given they are one of BBK’s subsidiaries. Oppo, another BBK subsidiary, already has its own foldable lineup, called the Oppo Find N series. Given Oppo and OnePlus have already shared phone designs before, we will likely see a OnePlus version of the Find N foldables. There’s no release date for now, but it likely won’t be a long wait given its sister companies already have the design and R&D locked in.
