OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro 5G Retail Unlocked Pricing Leaked, Places ‘Flagship Killer’ Smartphone In The Premium Android Category?

The OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro specifications and features leaked recently, and a lot of details about the ‘flagship killer’ are now known. It is quite likely that OnePlus might not alter any specification of these Android smartphones now. The prices of mobile phones have apparently been leaked by an online retailer. Given the claimed specifications and features advertised by the e-retailer, the final retail prices of OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro appear legitimate.

The OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro Android smartphones are expected to officially launch next week. OnePlus is the Chinese smartphone maker that popularized the term ‘flagship killer’ by offering high-end, no-compromise Android smartphones at exceptionally attractive prices. The latest editions of the OnePlus-branded smartphones, the OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro, appear to follow the principle of bettering last year’s models and incorporating the latest hardware into a sleek form factor. Although the majority of the details of the upcoming OnePlus smartphones have leaked, the company has closely held onto the prices, which have now leaked a little early.

OnePlus 8 And OnePlus 8 Pro Once Again Enter The ‘Flagship Killer’, Pricing Range?

The last few iterations of the OnePlus smartphones, namely the OnePlus 7T and the Maclaren Editions have broken the mold and were priced in the premium Android smartphone category. These mobile phones certainly justified their lofty price by featuring several cutting-edge specifications and features. However, the OnePlus made its mark by offering the hardware that traditionally large companies offered in their devices, at a much lower price point.

The latest OnePlus smartphones, the OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro are built to support the latest, and still very nascent, 5G mobile communication and data transmission standard. Much faster than 4G, the 5G network still isn’t mainstream and commonplace. However, that hasn’t stopped smartphone companies from incorporating the latest hardware that supports 5G technology. Both the OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro come with the latest, and significantly powerful, Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 processor. The Octacore SoC works with an additional Snapdragon X55 5G modem instead of an onboard or integrated solution.

Despite the premium hardware and top-end features like a large and high refresh rate, Super AMOLED 10-Bit HDR display, latest SoC, 8/12 GB LPDDR4X RAM, big battery, etc. the OnePlus 8 and its slightly better spec’d OnePlus 8 Pro could sport some really aggressive pricing.

Czech dealer Alza had listed the multiple iterations of OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro on its eCommerce platform. The listings were quickly pulled down for obvious reasons. However, it appears the retail pricing of OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro have been leaked.

The online retailer listed the OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro with the detailed specifications, which match the previous leaks and reports. Additionally, the website also mentioned the specific SKU IDs for the different models. Hence the information could be legitimate and accurate. Needless to add, the attached specifications fully correspond to what we have reported based on the official datasheets for the new smartphones.

OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro Retail Pricing Leaked?

According to the retailer’s database, OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro could be listed with the following price structure. The pricing will, of course, vary depending on the country:

OnePlus 8 8 GB / 128GB: Approx. 719/729 Euros

OnePlus 8 12 GB / 256GB: Approx. 819/829 Euros

OnePlus 8 Pro 8 GB / 128GB: Approx. 919/929 Euros

OnePlus 8 Pro 12 GB / 256GB: Approx. 1009/1019 Euros

It is apparent that the entry-level OnePlus 8 with 8GB RAM and 128GB onboard storage sits firmly in the ‘flagship killer’ prices, but the rest of the iterations, including the OnePlus 8 12GB/256GB, and both the iterations of the OnePlus 8 Pro sit in the premium Android smartphone category. Moreover, compared to the currently available OnePlus 7 and OnePlus 7T, the prices of the upcoming OnePlus smartphones are priced at a lofty premium.

The OnePlus 7T was launched last year for 579/589 euros, while the OnePlus 7T Pro was launched for at least 759/769 euros. OnePlus could justify the price escalation to the use of better hardware. However, the main reason for the higher retail prices of OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro could be the latest 865 SoC from Qualcomm and as an extension, the license fees for 5G integration.

Incidentally, despite the obviously higher prices, the latest OnePlus 8 Series is currently the cheapest flagship Android smartphone with 5G capabilities. Xiaomi, the company that prides itself on value-for-money smartphones, demands at least 799 Euros for the Mi 10 5G. The Oppo Find X2 seems to sport an even higher price tag of 999 Euros.
