The OnePlus 6T launch date is confirmed and the launch event is in New York on October 30th, according to Winfuture.mobi. It will be taking place at 3PM GMT. The successor to one of the most exciting phones this year has already made numerous unofficial appearances on the web ahead of the launch and the company itself also has released important details about the upcoming oneplus flagship. OnePlus has also just announced the availability of the OnePlus 6T from 6 November 2018. Here’s what we know so far.
On the basis of leaked renderings and official confirmations the latest “T” phone in the OnePlus line is like none other. Headlining the trend, the removal of the 3.5 mm headphone jack has turned many heads. OnePlus co-founder and CEO Pete Lau last week confirmed that the decision to remove the 3.5mm headphone jack was made in order to accommodate the new in-screen fingerprint technology, which allows users to unlock the phone by tapping on the display. Necessary or not, this new feature comes with a cost. “After you experience the Screen Unlock you’ll fall in love with it. [You’ll] realize that it’s the experience that you wanted.” said Pete Lau after describing the move as one of the most difficult decisions he’s ever had to make. Another major design change was the addition of the waterdrop notch, which is a smaller and more subtle version of the notch slab at the top. Phones like Realme 2 Pro and Vivo V11 Pro already have this notch format. According to recent official renders, the phone likes slightly thinner than the predecessor.
OnePlus is working hard to associate the OnePlus 6T with the in-display biometric sensor.Huawei is also expected to announce the Mate 20 Pro on October 16th and is rumored to come with the in-display technology. “It all starts with a new optical fingerprint module, which houses a small lens that can accurately register your fingerprint as it presses down on the cover glass. The screen is used as a light source to enhance the outline of your fingerprint, enabling the sensor to accurately read its exact dimensions and shape,” OnePlus explained on its website. Time to say goodbye to the dedicated fingerprint module on the OnePlus.
There are minor improvements in the camera capabilities. According to reports, OnePlus 6T will come with a 20-megapixel front-facing camera. The back of the OnePlus 6T will feature a dual-camera setup consisting of 16-megapixel and 20-megapixel sensors. OnePlus 6T will be powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor and will be available in multiple RAM variants going up to 8GB. There will be minor improvement in the battery size, increasing from OnePlus 6’s 3,300mAh to 3,700mAh.
When OnePlus launched its first handset, the goal was to provide the specifications of a flagship handset at a much lower price. The OnePlus 6T will be a more expensive price than the OnePlus 6, and there’s been a stern decision to allow price inflation as opposed to implementing cost cutting and compromising in other areas. And if that remains the case, will the new consumers coming to the OnePlus 6T outweigh the existing fanbase who will take umbrage at the decision? If correct, the 6T will be one of the key Android handsets of the year. If wrong, it could drive OnePlus away from its vocal fan base.
