Obsidian Entertainment’s The Outer Worlds is getting its first story DLC next year. Following its overwhelming positive reception at launch and this year’s The Game Awards, the sci-fi action RPG will be expanding upon its story via a DLC in 2020.
Responding to the hugely positive feedback, Obsidian Social Media Manager Shyla wrote in a statement: “We want to take this opportunity to thank the incredible team behind The Outer Worlds. It is because of their hard work and dedication to this project that we received the Best Narrative, Best Performance – Ashly Burch, Best RPG, and Game of the Year nominations at The Game Awards.”
Shyla further added that the “journey isn’t over yet” as The Outer Worlds will be “expanding the story through DLC next year!”
Obsidian didn’t share any information about the DLC itself, only that it will release sometime next year. The statement reads that details will be released at a “later date”.
The main story of The Outer Worlds is about 20 to 30 hours long, but the actual length depends on the player’s playstyle. Obsidian stated that the game’s first DLC will focus on story, so I wouldn’t be surprised if the upcoming expansion pack is lighter in terms of content.
Although it achieved many nominations at The Game Awards, The Outer Worlds didn’t win any awards. Regardless, Obsidian’s directors personally displayed gratitude towards their fans in a heartfelt message.
“We just wanted to personally thank our team for doing a wonderful job and our fans for their tremendous support,” writes Obsidian’s Leonard Boyarsky. “And Tim would like to say what an honor it was to work with me.”
“Whatever, Leonard. Now that we’ve finished, I expect that certain photographs will be destroyed, as per our agreement,” responds Tim Cain.
Although details are fairly sparse, the announcement of a DLC has stirred excitement among The Outer Worlds fans. Expect to see detailed information about the upcoming expansion in the coming weeks.
