NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 SUPER and GeForce RTX 3070 SUPER Graphics Cards In Development With Higher VRAM?

There could be two new NVIDIA Graphics Cards under development. According to the latest rumors, there are SUPER Editions of NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 under development. These SKUs could pack substantially more VRAM than the standard variants.

After AMD launched its Radeon RX 6000 Series of RDAN 2-based Graphics Cards, NVIDIA has been experimenting with multiple GPU boards and VRAM configurations to dominate either end of the market. Quite a few NVIDIA GeForce RTX 30 series graphics card configurations have surfaced online, only to be canceled or replaced later. New rumors now claim NVIDIA is preparing two brand new SKUs called the GeForce RTX 3080 SUPER and the GeForce RTX 3070 SUPER.

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 SUPER and GeForce RTX 3070 SUPER Packing Large GDDR6(X)VRAM?

The rumor claims NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 SUPER and GeForce RTX 3070 SUPER will not affect the upcoming card lineup which would include the GeForce RTX 3080 Ti and the GeForce RTX 3060. There’s no official confirmation about these cards yet. Moreover, there’s no further clarity on NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 Ti, and the RTX 3080 Ti and RTX 3070 Ti are equally missing any concrete updates.

Coming to the rumored specifications, NVIDIA had reportedly planned higher VRAM variants of both RTX 3080 and RTX 3070 graphics cards. Both these cards were to have anywhere between 12 and 16 GB of VRAM. Incidentally, NVIDIA’s insistence on using the cutting-edge GDDR6X VRAM has resulted in the company restricting the VRAM amount to 10 GB on its slightly lower-end Graphics Cards.

When will NVIDIA Announce NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 SUPER and GeForce RTX 3070 SUPER?

The GDDR6X memory supply remains an issue. However, industry experts indicate the situation should ease in the second quarter of 2021. Hence, NVIDIA could take some firm decisions during that time.

The GeForce RTX 3080 SUPER and GeForce RTX 3070 SUPER could be the first entrants in the lineup officially announced by the second quarter of 2021. These cards won’t go up against NVIDIA’s own premium or top-end NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090 or even the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080.

The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 SUPER and GeForce RTX 3070 SUPER will be the SUPER refresh that NVIDIA is readying to beat AMD’s Radeon RX 6800 and RX 6700 series. Hence NVIDIA could pack up to 16GB of GDDR6 VRAM modules on the GeForce RTX 3070 SUPER, while the GeForce RTX 3080 SUPER could get the GDDR6X variant.

The tweaks might not be limited to the amount of VRAM. According to experts, NVIDIA might just use the GA103S GPU for GeForce RTX 3070 SUPER, while the GeForce RTX 3080 SUPER would retain its capable GA102 GPU. The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3000 SUPER variants could officially launch around Computex or during Summer. The company has traditionally followed this timeline to offer refreshed series.
