A new firmware update for the Nintendo Switch has been released. Update 8.0.0 for the console brings a lot of things to the table, some of which are highly requested quality of life additions. Additionally, Nintendo made some “system stability improvements” to the enhance the user experience.
Transfer Save Data
Nintendo Switch users can now transfer their save data for games between other consoles. This feature can be accessed by going into System Settings, and then Data Management. Bear in mind that the data being transferred will be removed from the source machine after the transfer completes.
Up until now, Nintendo Switch users didn’t have many options when organizing their games and software. The most recently launched software would automatically be moved to the first tile in the home screen.
With the addition of the new sort software feature, however, users can now sort owned games by time last played, total play time, software title, and software publisher. The Sort Software feature is available after selecting to view All Software from the home menu. This setting will only appear when there are 13 or more software icons on the home screen.
It’s been over two years since the Nintendo Switch launched, and the console is yet to provide a good option for the organization of digital games. Sort Software isn’t exactly the folder feature that most Nintendo Switch owners have been asking for, but it’s a step in the right direction. As the list of digital games for the Switch continue to grow, Switch users desperately need a better way of sorting their games.
Lastly, update 8.0.0 adds the new zoom feature. Zoom can be enabled in System Settings under the System section. Once enabled, it can be quickly toggled on by pressing the home button twice. The update also contained a handful of minor changes which can be found in the patch notes here.
Update 8.0.0 is available now on all Nintendo Switch systems worldwide.
