Bayonetta has become one of the most popular video game franchises in recent history, winning the Best Action Game Award at TGA last week. All of this while being limited to Nintendo‘s consoles. Fortunately for us, the series may not be coming to an end anytime soon.
In an interview with IGN, Platinum VP Hideki Kamiya stated that if he could, he would create an endless series with numerous sequels and spinoffs. However, when asked about a possible sequel to Bayonetta, he stated that the fourth and fifth games are in the works. And, despite the series’ economic success, Hideki feels that the games should be made in the way that the developers want them to be, with creative freedom, and without regard for what consumers expect from the title.
Taking the Bayonetta IP as an example, while I have a structure in mind for where the story is going to go far into the future, players are only able to pass judgment on the story that they have at the moment,”
When it comes to Bayonetta, it appears that the creators are really excited. Even last week, at The Game Awards, we got a surprise reveal of Bayonetta: Origins. This game concentrates on a young Bayonetta and serves as a prequel to all previous releases in the series. What’s fascinating is that the game managed to gather such a large fanbase despite the fact that it was only revealed for Switch, which is remarkable given the competition from consoles like Xbox and PlayStation.
With statements like these from the developers and improvements visible in the game on a regular basis, we know that it is a franchise that people can rely on in the future.
They’ll say things like the series is going to end because the creators have no love for it. I want people to know that’s obviously not how it is. I love Bayonetta more than anyone. How could I not love Cereza and all the other characters I’ve fostered for this long?”
Bayonetta: Origins will be released for Nintendo Switch on March 17, 2023. Let us know what you think in the comments, and if you believe the game will be entertaining to play even after it has been running for a while, keeping in mind that we will almost certainly see the title until the fifth game.
