New Sony PlayStation 5 ‘DualSense’ Controller Revealed, How Does PS5 Gamepad Compare With Microsoft Xbox Series X Controller

The new Sony PlayStation 5 controller has officially appeared online. The fundamentally redesigned gamepad meant for the new PS5 appears to be much sleeker than the previous iteration. The new PlayStation 5 ‘DualSense’ Controller packs some quite interesting features including one that puts it ahead of the recently revealed Microsoft Xbox Series X Controller.

The new PlayStation 5 with powerful hardware is yet to be launched or even completely revealed. However, the primary handheld wireless controller has surfaced online. The white edition of the PS5 DualSense Controller was revealed by Sony itself, and an accompanying blog post on the official blog reveals several new design elements that should appeal to PS5 dedicated gaming console loyalists.

New Sony PS5 ‘DualSense’ Game Controller Design Elements:

Sony is yet to reveal what the PlayStation 5 will look like, but the company unveiled the controller for its next-gen console. The intensely redesigned DualSense PS5 gamepad clearly marks one of the biggest departures from the earlier iterations. Simply put, Sony appears to have executed one of the most radical redesigns of the PS5 game controllers in the high-end dedicated gaming console’s 25-year history.

The most obvious changes to the design element are instantly visible on the new PS5 gamepad. Sony insists that it has retained the best features from the DualShock 4 while adding new functions and changing the design for the upcoming PlayStation 5 gamepad. Incidentally, the PS5 DualSense wireless controller is being shipped to game developers now so they can use its “unique features” in games.

Sony claims the new controller appears to have a more condensed form-factor. In other words, the controller should “feel smaller” than it looks. The angle of the hand triggers have been altered, and the grips have received some subtle updates. The biggest change, however, is the missing ‘Share’ button that the Microsoft Xbox Series X controller received. Instead of the Share button, the PS5 controller has received a new “Create” button feature. Sony assures the new Create button offers the flexibility of creating gameplay content that gamers can choose to share or enjoy themselves.

Interestingly, the new PS5 DualSense has a very symmetrical layout. The D-pad and face buttons sit on the top half of the controller and the matching analog sticks on the bottom. The touchpad and the accompanying light bar too are placed at the center.

Aesthetically, the Sony PlayStation Controller has traditionally remained loyal to a single color or tone. However, with the new PS5 DualSense gamepad, Sony has opted for a much more appealing and eye-catching two-toned design. The position of the light bar is also changed. It now sits next to the sides of touchpad, instead of on top of the same as in the earlier iteration, the DualShock 4.

New Sony PS5 ‘DualSense’ Game Controller Specifications, Features:

While the external has undergone a substantial redesign, it is the internal hardware components of the new PS5 DualSense game controller that justify it renaming. Sony claims with enhanced ergonomics, the company wanted a more immersive experience for gamers. The company assures gamers will feel like the controller is an extension of themselves when they’re playing.

The strong haptic feedback should enhance the gameplay experience. However, Sony has further bolstered the sensation with adaptive haptic feedback technology, wherein gamers should experience variable tensions of their actions depending on the gameplay and tasks being handled. The adaptive triggers have been incorporated within the L2 and R2 buttons of DualSense gamepad.

The new PS5 DualSense gamepad has a large battery. Sony hasn’t mentioned the capacity of the same, but the battery within the wireless PlayStation controller is rechargeable, and can be charged with a simple USB Type-C cable.

One of the most noticeable internal hardware components of the PS5 DualSense controller is the inclusion of a powerful microphone array, which will enable players to easily chat with friends without a headset. Sony, however, recommends the use of a headset for prolonged conversations.

New Sony PS5 ‘DualSense’ Game Controller Price, Availability:

Sony has merely offered a glimpse of the new PS5 DualSense game controller. In other words, the company has only highlighted the new design elements. Sony hasn’t confirmed if the new PS5 gamepad will be available in more color or custom design options.

Sony is expected to offer more information on the new PS5 game console as well as the DualSense controller in the near future. As for the price of the PS5 DualSense gamepad, the company could offer the same at the same price of the previous DualShock 4 controller, which is $59.99. The Sony PlayStation 5 will launch this Holiday Season of 2020.
