New Pokémon GO Battle Showdown Event introduces Fighting-type Pokémon

Starts now and ends May 14th

Niantic, the company behind the popular mobile Pokémon game, have added another type of Pokémon to the game. The Battle Showdown Event has just begun and Fighting-type Pokémon are now available in the game.

Gyms and Raids

Gym related activities are receiving a temporary buff. All Gym Battles and Raid Battles completed from now until May 14th will grant you twice the normal experience. During this time period, Fighting-type Pokémon will spawn more frequently and Raid Battles will also award with you with 3000 stardust and a guaranteed rare candy.

For the next two weeks, Pokémon GO will incentivize players to visit Gyms by including bonus rewards for multiple Gym actions. Spinning the Photo Discs grants bonus items and there is also a double badge multiplier in play.

You can expect to find all the Fighting-type Pokémon up till generation three:

  • Mankey
  • Primeape
  • Machop
  • Machoke
  • Machamp
  • Hitmonlee
  • Hitmonchan
  • Tyrogue
  • Hitmontop
  • Makuhita
  • Hariyama

Pokémon GO players have waited a long to time see the addition of Fighting-type Pokémon in the game. A strong Fighting Pokémon with decent IV’s and moves will be extremely useful in Gym and Raid Battles. More Fighting-type Pokémon will be available as more and more generations are added to Pokémon GO.

Niantic has done a good job keeping Pokémon GO alive with regular updates and events. The most recent one, Earth Day event, awarded players with triple the normal amount of stardust for capturing Ground, Water and Grass type Pokémon.

Another event scheduled in May is the May 2018 Community Day which is all about the first Fire-type starter, Charmander. Throughout that event, Charmanders will spawn more frequently and will be able to learn a special move if you evolve them into a Charizard before the end of the event. Lure Modules will last for three hours and you will receive triple the normal stardust for catching Pokémon during the event. More details about this event will be posted soon.
