New Native WhatsApp Windows Application Enables Texting Even When Your Phone is Offline

WhatsApp Web is a godsend for people who work on a desktop. But, unfortunately, the desktop app is very slow and clunky, and even the web version has similar issues. It seems the messaging giant has finally taken note, and recently released a new app for Windows users.

The previous version of the app used the electron framework, which is useful in cross-platform development. But it also meant that the app wasn’t a native implementation, thus being slower and a bit unreliable. The new app however, is now native to the Windows Operating System.

Download the new WhatsApp Desktop App for Windows.
Once downloaded and installed, to log in:
  • Open WhatsApp on your phone.
  • Tap More options on Android or Settings on iPhone.
  • Tap Linked Devices.
  • Point your phone camera to the QR code that appears on your WhatsApp Desktop App.

WhatsApp claims that the new native Windows app is now more reliable and faster. What’s more? There’s a great new feature too, the ability to receive notifications and messages even when your phone is offline. This was missing from previous WhatsApp web implementations, where your phone had to be on the entire time to receive messages on Desktop. You can download the new WhatsApp Windows app on the Microsoft storefront here

The company is also working on a native desktop app for MacOS, but that is still in development. However, you can join their beta program here to get early access.
