New BIOS Update For X299 Chipsets From MSI Will Enhance The Overclocking Capabilities Of The New Core X Series Processors

The new Core X lineup from Intel has been on the shelf for the consumers for two days now. Even though the reviews are not favoring the new family because of the launch schedule and performance compared to the new Threadripper CPUs, these are still very capable processors. The only smart thing that can be attributed to Intel with this launch is the reduced prices. Before launch, Intel compared the price to performance ratios of these processors and the 2nd generation of Threadripper CPUs. Intel claimed that these processors output double the performance per dollar compared to the HEDT processors from AMD.

While we did not get to verify the claim since Intel decided to delay the launch of these processors. These processors are not bad by any stretch. Intel ended up releasing these processors with the Ryzen Threadripper 3960X and 3970X, which made them look very bad both on paper and on display. In retrospect, these are competent devices, and if one thinks that these are the ones that suit one’s budget, then one should go for it.

Earlier reviews of these devices suggest that the overclocking headroom was very little for these devices. According to Intel, it was because of the fact that these cores were unable to utilize the X299 chipset efficiently, which was affecting the overclocking capabilities of the processors. Intel is providing the microcode that will enhance the overclocking headroom of these processors.

MSI X299 BIOS update

MSI will be the first motherboard manufacturer that will roll out the update. They have stated that their current BIOS supports the new 10th gen Core X series of processors. It should be noted that not every motherboard with the X299 chipset will be getting the new BIOS update, only the ones mentioned below will be getting the latest update. If you are deciding to get one of these flashy processors, then you should look into it as using other motherboards may not be as beneficial.
