With time everything evolves, and some things evolve into wild beasts who are overkill in every aspect. Currently e-sports are driving forward the technologies which are essential to gaming may it be chairs or pieces of cloths you drag your mouse on.
Routers are another such thing, which can help shape up the local connection you are playing on and decrease the frustration which might come from networking issues.
Netgear a networking hardware company has given birth to one such wild beast in the router’s species. Announcing the XR700 during IFA 2018 they have built a router which might just be more powerful than the computer you owned a decade ago.
Housing in it’s flashy 4 antennae case, is a Annapurna Labs AL-314 processor with a clock speed of 1.7GHz, to go with 512MB of NAND flash memory and 1GB of DDR3 RAM, the 4 antennae go with Qualcomm based 802.11ac/ad modules which support 2.4GHz/5GHz/60GHz WIFI speeds which can reach upto 7200Mbps.
For wired connectivity it has a whopping number of 7 Gigabit Ethernet ports out of which 6 are LAN and 1 is a WAN port. Over that it also has 2 USB 3.0 ports, which can be very useful as it has a Plex Media Server onboard.
The XR700 has a 10-gigabit-per-second ethernet port that, when connected to Netgear’s SX10 Nighthawk Pro switch, provides 15 wired gigabit ports.
Even though it might seem like an extremely ambitious router for a single person, the XR700 would be a perfect one stop solution for Gaming houses inhabiting entire e-sports teams who have rigorous training cycles having 5+ players in an intense online game at the same time, other than that it could be a great investment for gaming cybercafes where a mix of people are in separate gaming sessions and want the best possible network connections.
The XR700 uses the DumaOS system firmware which helps it reduce the latency to the game servers significantly. It also comes with no access & content control features, with powerful tools for bandwidth management.
According to Netgear the XR700 will be priced at $500 US and will be officially released in September.
