AMD’s Flagship Navi31 Benchmarked, Neck to Neck Against the RTX 4090

AMD’s CPU department is expected to see the launch of Zen4 in around 1 month. For the GPU enthusiasts, you may have to wait a bit. However, leaks have finally started to surface regarding AMD’s RDNA 3 architecture and Navi 3x.

A small recap

As a recap, the Navi 3x series will feature 3 GPUs

  • Navi 31
  • Navi 32
  • Navi 33

So far, AMD has not publicly stated anything regarding the usecases for these chips. But fear not! We have some leaks, the kingpin Navi 31 may only be featured in the RX 7900/RX 7950 GPUs. Moving on to the mid-range segment, the Navi 32 may ship with the RX 7800XT, RX 7800 and RX 7700XT. On a budget? AMD has got you because the Navi 33 will power the RX 7600 XT/RX 7600.

The unofficial die size comparisons for these Navi 3x GPUs were also rendered. Here it is important to note that the flagship Navi 31 will have a considerably small die size.

The benchmarks

Now its all fun and games until the benchmarks start pouring in. Greymon shared the leaked score for AMD’s upcoming Navi 31. The GPU scores a mind-boggling 19,000+ points in the TSE (Time Spy Extreme) benchmark.

We do not know if this is the full-fat GPU or a cut-down variant. At higher power consumptions (custom GPUs), expect the scores to jump past the 20,000 mark.

harukaze5719 shared a performance comparison chart for Navi 31 against NVIDIA’s Ampere and Lovelace GPUs.

The Navi 31 (configuration unknown) is neck to neck against NVIDIA’s 4090 (leaked). A higher end variant may overtake the Lovelace based 4090. Now, before I make out of the world like claims, take these leaks with a grain of salt. We still have no word regarding the power consumption to show us the efficiency. Is AMD not confident in its silicon? That’s yet to be seen.

A possible release date

The mainstream market will see these GPUs in action by around November. This atleast applies to the Navi 31 GPU, lower end variants (Navi 32, Navi 33) may arrive sometime in Q1 2023.
