At the Build this week, Microsoft introduced the new ‘Your Phone’ app for Windows 10. We also learned that ‘Your Phone’ will be able to sync messages; recent photos and notifications from your phone to your PC, and it will soon be launched with the upcoming version of Windows 10, though it might not be ready for Redstone 5. With this new announcement at the build, Microsoft showed the world that it is really serious about offering deep synergies between your PC and your smartphones, both iOS and Android.
Firstly it will be necessary for your smartphone (both iOS and Android) to be connected to the same WiFi network as your PC, as the app will work more efficiently this way. It is also essential for you to know that only last month’s text messages along with just 25 recent pictures will be synced to your Windows 10 PC, and this information will not be synced to the cloud. But, a local cache with all the synced information will be stored on your PC, even after the smartphone is disconnected.
Microsoft’s Shilpa Ranganathan clarified that if your photos and notifications syncing is supported on iOS, then Apple will not allow it for text messages. She added, “Apple does make it a tad harder for messages, but we’re very willing to work with Apple.” She continued that Microsoft will eventually bring iMessage to Windows, but there seems a low possibility of that happening as iMessage is the key asset of Apple well-guarded garden.
Shilpa Ranganathan said, “I know people have asked for calling and dialling as well, that’s something that has been on our radar as well.” Since 2014, Apple has allowed iPhone users to answer incoming calls from Mac and iPad, and this is something that Microsoft too is planning to bring to Your Phone in the near future.
We are expecting a new working version of Your Phone in the Fast Ring Insiders, within the upcoming weeks, and looking forward to what the new feature brings.
