Mordhau, the newly-released multiplayer medieval slasher by Triternion, has sold one million copies. After launching in April this year, the game quickly caught the attention of gamers longing for a Chivalry-style combat game. To celebrate this impressive milestone, the developer has released an update that adds a new map, new weapons, and a host of general improvements.
Crossroads is the newest Mordhau map best suited for Skirmish. This large scale map features horses, mortars, and a “dangerous single objective to hold in the center.”
With the addition of mortars, Mordhau players will now have more variety when approaching their objective from a different angle. The new siege engine works similar to a catapult but is marginally easier to use. The mortar fires an arcing projectile which explodes upon impact. Compared to its rock-hurling cousin, aiming is much easier thanks to a helpful trajectory indicator.
Patch 7 for Mordhau introduces two new weapons: the Heavy Handaxe and the Javelin. The first is a slow, versatile and powerful one handed axe that can also be used as a hammer to repair structures. Meanwhile, the javelins are two heavy-duty throwing spears designed to deal maximum damage. Both weapons cost three equipment points when used in the armory.
In terms of combat, shields in general have seen a slight buff, and kicking is less effective against shield users. Horse movement desync has also been fixed. On the balancing front, patch 7 brings a lot to the table. There’s a very long list of changes to several weapons such as the Estoc, Bastard Sword, Eveningstar, and many more. Considering that Mordhau released just over a month ago, its pretty impressive that the game has already sold one million copies.
