Monolith Soft, the studio behind the Xenoblade Chronicles games, has begun hiring staff to work on a new Legend of Zelda game. The studio helped out in the development of Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, which released for the Nintendo Switch and Wii U in March 2017.
As highlighted by JapaneseNintendo, Monolith Soft is now recruiting staff to work on a new game in the Legend of Zelda series. A recruitment post on the company’s website calls for numerous positions including programmers, planners, technical artists, designers, and a project manager.
Monolith Soft is a Tokyo-based game development studio responsible for the popular Xenoblade games. The company currently has three studios in Japan, with the headquarters situated in Tokyo. The Tokyo-based studio contributed to the development on Breath of the Wild, specifically in designing the game’s environments. The second studio has worked on other Nintendo games such as Splatoon and Animal Crossing. The third studio launched in Iidabashi earlier this year, but no details regarding their current project have been shared.
Monolith Soft is currently working on two projects. The first one is being developed by the Xenoblade team, and the other is the upcoming Legend of Zelda title. As for the game itself, there’s not a lot that we know about it. Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is one of Nintendo Switch’s biggest sellers. The game topped charts worldwide and is regarded as one of the best in the franchise.
Last year, Nintendo put out job listings for a Zelda-related project. The company was seeking a 3DCG designer and a level designer to work on a new Legend of Zelda title. It’s likely that this project is related to the one Monolith Soft has begun recruiting staff members for.
Although it will be a long wait before we hear more information, we can look forward to a remake of Link’s Awakening, which is set for launch later this year.
