Microsoft Admits Decrease in Xbox One Sales Compared to Sony’s PS4

Not only did Sony dominate the previous console generations, but it also outperformed Microsoft. Microsoft’s court records assert that the PS4 sold more than twice as many units as the Xbox One.

The documents are an aspect of Microsoft’s efforts to convince Brazilian regulators to approve its acquisition of Activision Blizzard. The gaming giant disclosed that the Xbox One sold less than 58 million devices, or less than half of the PS4’s sales, as part of the proof.

According to the court documents submitted to Brazilian Regulators:

“Sony has surpassed Microsoft in terms of console sales and install base, having sold more than twice as many Xbox in the last generation”

Microsoft also debunks concerns that adding Activision Blizzard games to Game Pass would be unfair to its competitors regarding its streaming service. The memo states that the debut of Xbox Game Pass, Microsoft’s subscription gaming service, is the company’s competitive response to Xbox’s defeat in the “console wars.”

Sony believes that Activision Acquisition could lead to an advantage to Xbox Game Pass

The corporation continues by claiming that Game Pass is rather competing with Sony’s “buy-to-play” business model rather than other streaming services. Sony has allegedly used this “very well.”

The Activision Blizzard transaction is very significant for Microsoft’s future since it not only gives them access to one of the greatest gaming companies, but it also gives them an advantage over their rivals. Many businesses, including Sony, have opposed the purchase, but only time will tell how things turn out.
