Microsoft Launches New Windows 10 Preview Build Of The SDK

Microsoft released a new Windows 10 Preview Build of the SDK to be used in conjunction with Windows 10 Insider Preview (Build 17682 or greater). The Preview SDK Build 17682 contains bug fixes and underdevelopment changes to the API surface area.

The Preview SDK can be downloaded from developer section on Windows Insider.

Things to keep in mind in this build:

  • This build works in conjunction with previously released SDKs and Visual Studio 2017. You can install this SDK and still also continue to submit your apps that target Windows 10 Creators build or earlier to the Store.
  • The Windows SDK will now formally only be supported by Visual Studio 2017 and greater.
  • This build of the Windows SDK will install on Windows 10 Insider Preview and supported Windows operating systems.

This build comes with  MSIX support. You will now be able to package your application as MSIX. This application can be installed and run on any device with 17682 build or later.

To package your application with MSIX, you will now be able to use the MakeAppx tool. In order to install this application all you need to do is just click on the MSIX file.

However, it is important for you to note that MSIX is currently not supported by the App Certification Kit or the Microsoft Store.

More features and changes have been added to this build. For more information, check the official Microsoft blog.
