Microsoft Flight Simulator’s Latest Free Update Upgrades UK and Ireland

After a minor delay, Microsoft Flight Simulator’s World Update is out now for free. Initially scheduled for release last month, the highly-anticipated upgrade to United Kingdom and Ireland was delayed to between February 9th and February 11th. Although the team missed that window by a little bit, the new update is available now and adds a bunch of stuff. Have a look at this short trailer to get an idea of what the free update entails:

In a new blog post, Microsoft Flight Simulator’s head Jorg Neumann gives the rundown on the contents of world update 3. The primary focus of the update is improving United Kingdom and Ireland, similar to the treatment USA and Japan received with previous world updates.

“World Update 3: United Kingdom & Ireland features high-resolution 3D photogrammetry for the renowned cities of Birmingham, Bristol, Cambridge, London and Oxford, five new meticulously hand-crafted airports (Barra, Liverpool, Land’s End, Manchester-Barton and Out Skerries), visual and logistical improvements to 85 more area airports, and improved digital elevation information across the U.K.”

Neumann further states that the update introduces “compelling architectural elements” which means players will see everything from “British manors and Victorian homes to countryside stone structures, castles and churches”. There will also be drive-thru restaurants added to the world map. More than 70 world famous landmarks, bridges, and other points of interests have been added.

“Also included with the update are a trio of new activities: an Iconic Flight in the Northern Isles and two diverse Landing Challenges – an epic one up north on the Shetland archipelago, and a fierce one far south in the turbulent skies over Southeast England.”

Microsoft Flight Simulator world update 3 is available now for free to all players. The update can be accessed by first making sure your game is updated, then proceeding to the marketplace to download the UK & Ireland bundle. Microsoft Flight Simulator is available on PC via Xbox Game Pass, Windows 10 store, and Steam.
