Microsoft has signed an exclusive marketing partnership with LG Electronics. As a direct result, LG’s OLED TV technology is now the official TV partner of Microsoft’s new Xbox Series X gaming console.
To ensure the next-generation high-end gaming consoles like the Microsoft Xbox Series X and Series S have the most optimum television sets to connect, Microsoft and LG have joined hands. Together, the duo is expected to work together in offering LG’s top-end OLED TVs and Microsoft Xbox Series X in select markets.
Are LG OLED Smart TVs The Best Option For Microsoft Xbox Series X?
LG Electronics has been working hard for the past couple of years to finetune its premium OLED Televisions. In fact, the company has indicated that it is ensuring its OLED TVs are ready for the next generation of video game technology. The LG C9 series has been exceptionally well suited for high-end gaming consoles.
Since 2019, the LG C9 series of OLED televisions have supported next-generation gaming features such as Variable Refresh Rates (VRR), 4K playback at 120Hz refresh rates, and Automatic Low Latency Mode (ALLM) switching. The last feature automatically toggles between video and game presets depending on the use case.
The majority of the key next-gen gaming features are supported by LG’s latest 2020 Edition of OLED TVs. Input lag (the time a screen takes to render images) figures are as low as 1ms. They have built-in playback of the Dolby Atmos audio mixes, which are already included in Microsoft Xbox Series X games. Moreover, the upcoming games will have the Dolby Vision HDR format.

LG OLED TVs in 2020 also has support for the enhanced return audio channel (eARC) HDMI system for sending lossless Dolby Atmos audio out from the TV directly to connected soundbars and AV receivers. Additionally, these TVs also support the ‘HGiG’ HRD profile which has been developed for offering improved HDR gaming experiences.
Incidentally, LG OLED TVs provide next-gen gaming support across all of their HDMI ports. In other words, all the HDMI ports on the latest LG OLED TVs are HDMI 2.1 which are capable of delivering 4K video content at a 120 Hz refresh rate. Needless to add, the majority of top-end Smart TVs from competing brands support the next-gen gaming features over one HDMI port only. The remaining HDMI ports are meant for standard audio and video signals.
If these are not enough, LG’s latest televisions have special gaming functions such as the Eye Comfort function, which has been tested by TÜV Rheinland and is designed to prevent eye fatigue. “The certification certifies that the televisions are flicker-free, emit minimal blue light and deliver a large color space, excellent HDR performance, and consistent picture quality when viewed from a wide-angle,” assured LG.
