Update 2: Bryanna Lindsey, the lead VFX artist at Insomniac Games has confirmed via Twitter that the game’s impressive trailer was not a pre-rendered cutscene. The whole trailer was, in fact, running in real-time on a PlayStation 5, further adding to the graphical chops of the PS5 and highlighting the talent of the team at Insomniac.
Update 1: Insomniac Games has confirmed that Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 will be a single-player adventure with no co-op or multiplayer modes.
In a surprise reveal, PlayStation has just announced the sequel to their 2018 hit, Marvel’s Spider-Man. Insomniac Games has been hard at work pumping out quality games for the past few years. Just coming off the tails of Spider-Man: Miles Morales, it looks like the team is ready to take on its biggest project yet. Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 was announced mid-show and it features a fan-favorite character that the community has long anticipated.
Not only are Miles and Peter fighting side-by-side in the trailer, we get our first official look at Venom in a modern Spider-Man game. What’s exciting here is that Insomniac is at the helm and Insomniac is one of the very few match-made-in-heaven studios that are working right now because they understand Spider-Man like no other. Fans have asked for Insomniac’s take on Venom ever since the first game came out and it looks like the wait was well worth it. Considering Insomniac’s flawless run so far, fans can expect an incredible fight against Venom and other Spider-Man foes in the upcoming sequel.
The game is slated for 2023 release with no concrete details yet. We know that creative director Bryan Intihar and game director Ryan Smith from the original Marvel’s Spider-Man will return for the sequel. Yuri Lowenthal and Nadji Jeter will also reprise their voicing roles. Whereas, Venom will be voiced by newcomer Tony Todd. You can learn more about the game on the official blog post where Ryan Schneider, Head Of Franchise Strategy at Insomniac Games, goes over how the game will be brought to life.
