Limbo and Inside developer Playdead is working on a open-world sci-fi adventure game as per latest report

The developers of critically acclaimed titles Limbo and Inside, Playdead, is working on a new game. Playdead had partnered with Epic Games Publishing in early 2020 and this seems like their first project with the label. As part of the partnership, Epic Games Publishing will cover 100% of the development costs of the game while the profit will be split equally between the two parties.

The latest job listing on Playdead’s website hints at what we can expect from the mysterious title. As spotted by Twitter user MauroNL, the job ad states that the studio is looking for a Technical Director for their upcoming project. The game will be a “3rd person, open world, science fiction adventure built for multiple platforms”. The project was teased early last year; however, nothing much was revealed about it.

The developer further emphasizes that it doesn’t apply crunch on their employees. This has been one of the most controversial aspects in the gaming industry, especially in the past few weeks. It mentions that it is looking for people who “who enjoy managing their own schedule and thrive on working within a friendly collaborative environment”. Considering the scale of the studio, that seems to be quite an employee-friendly policy on their part.

Both Inside and Limbo received a lot of positive reception at launch. The games had a nice mix of puzzles and platforming elements which made them stand out among other games. The developers had previously hinted that their next project will be bigger than their past titles. It seems like they are going for a 3D game this time around. The game will be built on Unreal Engine. It will be interesting how things pan out considering the fact that this is the first time it will be developing a game of this scale. While there is no information about the release date, it is expected that we will get an announcement this year itself.
