Jetpacks finally added to Fortnite in v4.2 content update

Take to the skies with the new Jetpacks

Fortnite content update v4.2 is now live. After weeks of waiting, Jetpacks are finally available in Fortnite Battle Royale. A new limited time mode called Solid Gold v2 is now available.

Backpacks

Before exploring the Jetpack, we need to look at how it is equipped. Fortnite Battle Royale now has new types of items called Backpacks. Unlike Back Bling, Backpacks are a gameplay item that occupy an inventory slot. Only one backpack item can be equipped at a time. Picking up another backpack will replace the one you are carrying.

Jetpacks

After being delayed due to some issues, the Jetpack can now be found in Fortnite Battle Royale. The Jetpack has a legendary rarity and can only be found in chests. Once equipped, the jetpack allows its wearer to fly for a few seconds before having to recharge.

Essentially, the jetpack has a cool down meter to avoid extended periods of flight. This cool down meter is independent from the jetpack’s fuel tank and recharges when the jetpack is not in use. If your jetpack has to recharge while you are mid-air, you will fall down and take fall damage. Once the fuel tank is completely drained, the jetpack is destroyed.

I hopped in game and got my hands on a jetpack. Here is what it looks like in game:

Targeting mode is disabled while in the air but you can still hip-fire.

Limited Time Mode: Solid Gold v2

In this unique limited time mode, all weapon drops are legendary. Floor drops are more likely to spawn Hand Cannons and Suppressed Pistols. Chests have a high chance of dropping Assault Rifles, Mini-guns and Sniper Rifles. Supply drops will not drop Pistols, and are more likely to contain Grenade Launchers and Rocket Launcher.

As is the case with several limited time modes, farming grants an increased amount of resources. Chug Jugs, Slurp Juices, and Shield potions also have an increased drop rate.

Epic Games also teased a new limited time mode called Close Encounters. This mode will feature “close quarters combat with Shotguns & Jetpacks!”. Due to an increased shotgun spawn rate and a faster moving storm, Close Encounters matches will last about 15 minutes.
