New Iron Man Game Confirmed by Marvel and EA’s Motive Studio

Truth be told, we haven’t seen any Iron Man titles in over a decade now, with Marvel Studios being completely silent about the future of Iron Man’s portrayal in a video game. But that’s about to change as Marvel Entertainment and EA Studios are about to embark on a collaborative journey with a new Iron Man game in the works.
New Iron Man Game Officially Confirmed
Iron Man had a video game presence a decade ago in the video game industry, with gamers getting to enjoy mediocre tie-in games for the Iron Man movies. A few titles were released for the PS2 and PS3. The games featured some large maps but not so impressive games with repetitive missions added into the fray. We did get to fly around the map as Iron Man, which was pretty fun at the time, don’t get me wrong.
Later, we got to experience Iron Man VR for the PS4, which was a short but solid experience, for that matter. But it didn’t feature anything that could’ve been considered groundbreaking.
Luckily, it was today that Marvel Entertainment and EA’s Motive studio officially confirmed the rumored Iron Man title. They’ve confirmed that the game is well into development. The news was confirmed officially by EA on their blog post, while Motive Studio also took to Twitter to reveal this one screenshot of the upcoming Iron Man Game.

Affirming the rumors, the game will feature a single-player third-person action/adventure model featuring an original story. Bill Rosemann, Vice President and Creative Director over at Marvel Games had to share some words on the future of the upcoming Iron Man game:
We are thrilled to collaborate with the talented team at Motive Studio to bring their original vision of one of Marvel’s most important, powerful, and beloved characters. Their experience delivering both established entertainment worlds and thrilling gameplay — combined with their authentic passion for the armored icon — will fuel our quest to deliver a love letter to a legendary hero in the form of the ultimate Iron Man video game. – Bill Rosemann
But the question arises. Will Motive Studio really nail the upcoming Iron Man title with their quoted “Original Vision”? It appears that the developers over at Motive Studios are quite excited to try their hands out on the next-generation iteration of the Iron Man experience, but it’s up to the fans to decide if it’s a true love letter to the legendary hero, Iron Man.
Motive Studio brings their talent and excitement for creating fan-favorite worlds for players to explore and be their own hero, with experience developing titles like Star Wars™: Squadrons and the upcoming Dead Space remake on January 27, 2023. – Electronic Arts
The Executive Producer over at Motive, Olivier Proulx, had a few words of his own to share:
It’s an honor and privilege to have the opportunity to make a video game based on one of the most iconic Super Heroes in entertainment today. We have a great opportunity to create a new and unique story that we can call our own. Marvel is encouraging us to create something fresh. We have a lot of freedom, which is so engaging for the team. – Olivier Proulx
It’s safe to say that Iron Man is in safe hands for now. Proulx also worked on the well-received Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, which was developed over at Eidos Montreal. His team includes other veterans of the gaming industry, such as Ian Frazier, Maelenn Lumineau, and JF Poirer.
The Iron Man Title is still in pre-production, and it’s likely the game won’t get any further updates. Not until Motive Studios is done bringing the upcoming Dead Space remake to shelves that is set for a January 23 release date. It’s certainly a long wait, but we’re here to update you with any rumors and future updates.
We’re thrilled to share that an all-new single-player, third-person, action-adventure Iron Man video game is now in early development at Montreal-based Motive Studio. The team is being led by Olivier Proulx, who brings experience working on past Marvel titles like Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, and is joined by a dedicated team of passionate industry veterans including Ian Frazier, Maëlenn Lumineau, and JF Poirier at the studio.
Developed in collaboration with Marvel Games, the game will feature an original narrative that taps into the rich history of Iron Man, channeling the complexity, charisma, and creative genius of Tony Stark, and enabling players to feel what it’s like to truly play as Iron Man. – Electronic Arts
We certainly hope this doesn’t turn out to be another dead end for the future of Iron Man video games, as has been the case previously. It was in August when fans learned that Avalanche Studios was previously working on an Iron Man game nearly ten years ago. The team selected for the job consisted of the developers of Just Cause, who are notorious for their incredible gameplay mechanics and environmental destructibility.
The game was in two years into development before the project was finally canned due to inter-company politics. Avalanche co-founder Chrisofter Sundberg revealed in an interview that the developers of Just Cause were working closely with Stockholm Studio and Disney on delivering an Iron Man video game before the project was ultimately shut down.

Sundberg mentioned in his interview that the game turned out to be a mess at the end of its life. The development period of the game was reduced drastically while the budget kept on ballooning. This resulted in the team needing extra hands on the project, with the recruitment of nearly eighty people to finish up the game before Disney canceled it.
The studio almost went bankrupt trying to create the Iron Man game, so Disney filed to cancel the project before it went public.
It was a mess by the end. It would have broken the company completely. So much time and energy had been spent on it, and it looked absolutely amazing. – Christopher Sundberg
So, will the upcoming Iron Man Game turn out to be a total bust, as was the case for the unreleased Iron Man game that was canned before it was even announced? That certainly won’t be the case now that EA has finally revealed that the game is in pre-production, and it’s not like EA to go back on their word. Hopefully, we’ll see an Iron Man game release sometime in 2025 if everything goes as planned. Till then, gamers will have to hold in their excitement and wait for its inevitable release.
