Intel Whiskey Lake U Series Has Higher Clock Speeds But The Same Node

Intel Whiskey Lake U series has not been officially announced by Intel but that has not stopped partners from mentioning them on their sites. Asus and HP have mentioned that these CPUs will be part of their upcoming lineup of laptops and it is interesting to note that the upcoming Intel Whiskey Lake U series is also based on the 14nm process. Intel has been having issues with the 10nm process and while we have seen a chip base on that node in a Lenovo laptop, that is pretty much all that we got.

The upcoming Intel Whiskey Lake U series chips will be the Intel Whiskey Lake Core i7-8565U, the Core i5-8265U, and the Core i3-8145U. The i3 seems to be an odd one out here as we have not seen many i3 CPUs on the market especially talking about mobile CPUs and Kaby Lake-R. But what we know for sure is that the Core i7-8565U and the Core i5-8265U will replace the Kaby Lake-R CPUs and will also offer higher clock speeds as compared to the previous CPUs on the market.

These are U series CPUs so while the chips will run at higher clock speeds, they will consume less power. The Intel Whiskey Lake i7-8565U has a boost clock of  4.6 GHz which means that it is 400 MHz faster than the previous model. The Intel Whiskey Lake Core i5-8265U is 500 MHz faster than the Core i5-8350U. You can expect more responsiveness in ultrabooks that will use these chips as compared the laptops that use the previous models.

Both these Intel Whiskey Lake CPUs will have 4 cores which is a step up from the dual-core CPUs that we have been getting for a while now. You can expect to see plenty of multi-threaded performance and while you won’t be able to get lightning fast render times, you will be able to multi-task pretty well on the move. I am sure that this is something that users will appreciate.

The i3 is kind of a shot in the dark and the number of cores has not been specified. It will most likely have 2 cores like the older models. Stay tuned for more information regarding the matter.
