Intel Goes Eco-Friendly With New Raptor Lake Packaging Design

Intel is planning to announce its Raptor Lake CPUs on the 27th of September. Recently, we got our first look at the ‘leaked’ packaging design for Intel’s 13th Gen K-SKUs. As compared to last-gen, team blue apparently has opted for a more environment friendly design reducing the amount of material used.

Raptor Lake Box Design

HXL on Twitter shared a picture from WeChat showcasing the packaging for Intel’s 13th Gen CPUs. We already have the specifications of these CPUs leaked. In addition, Intel also ‘mistakenly’ confirmed its upcoming Raptor Lake lineup. Let us give you a comparison of the Intel’s packaging evolutions over the past few generations.

As you can see, each generation’s kingpin CPU had a rather bulky box which required a lot of material. This increased production cost by around 5-10% ($30-$60). Therefore, Intel following the recent ‘eco-friendly’ trend has adopted a simple and cost-effective design for the box.

When compared against last-gen, we see a silver wafer carrying the CPU instead of the gold wafer shipping with the 12900K.

Release Date & Performance

Intel’s Raptor Lake recently gained the number 1 spot in PassMark single-threaded testing. AMD’s Zen4 has placed some major roadblocks for Intel this time around. However, team blue’s silicon does have the power it needs to overtake AMD in some major areas.

A while back, the launch lineup for Intel’s 13th Gen was leaked. Take a look at it here. In short, the announcement will be conducted in a few days (27th of September) and the K-CPUs will retail by the 20th of October. We here at Appuals will keep you updated as new information unveils.
