How to Remove/Add Hyperlink in Word on Mac

When you are copying and pasting text from the internet into Microsoft Word, you will probably get a document with many hyperlinks in it. Some of them may be important for you, but most of them need to be removed. If you are editing Word documents on your Mac, and you have to remove some hyperlinks from it, here is how to do that.

Remove a Single Hyperlink

To remove a single hyperlink from a Word document

  1. First, select the word on which the hyperlink is attached to.
  2. Open the Insert tab (or Insert drop-down if you are using an older version of Word).
  3. Click on the Hyperlinks button (or choose Links > Hyperlink if you have an older version of Word).
  4. Choose Remove Link from the pop-up window that appears.

If you want to do the same action using keyboard shortcuts, press COMMAND + 6 while you have the hyperlinked word selected.

Remove Multiple/All Hyperlinks from a Word Document

To remove multiple links from your document.

  1. Select the part of the text you want to remove the links from.
  2. Do the same procedure as removing a single link (Insert > Hyperlink > Remove Hyperlink or COMMAND + 6).

To remove all hyperlinks from a document.

  1. Select the whole text in the document (CTRL + A).
  2. Do the same steps for removing a single link (Insert > Hyperlink > Remove Hyperlink or COMMAND + 6).

Note: The process for removing multiple or all hyperlinks from a Word document does NOT remove the links from images in that particular document. To remove links from pictures, you need to use the first method (remove a single hyperlink).

Add a Hyperlink to an Item

To add a hyperlink to a word or picture in your document.

  1. Select the word or picture you want to add a hyperlink to.
  2. Open the Insert tab (or Insert drop-down if you are using an older version of Word).
  3. Click on the Hyperlinks button (or choose Links > Hyperlink if you have an older version of Word).
  4. Type your hyperlink in the Link to field.
  5. Click OK on the bottom right corner of the window.
