How to Fix Windows 10 Anniversary Update Error 0x8000ffff

There are several issues being reported related to Microsoft Windows 10 Anniversary update. Windows 10 update is not going smoothly for some. Some users have reported that they are receiving the error message “Feature update to Windows 10, version 1607 – Error 0x8000ffff”. The update is getting stuck and could not be completed.

This issue could be caused due to corrupted installation Media and users have reported that redoing the update with Media creation tool helped solve the issue.

There are not many solutions available, however, you can check below two methods if those work for you.

Method 1:  Manual Update with Media Creation Tool

Instead of using upgrade assistant, you can try doing the installation manually using Media creation Tool. This might help to solve the issue if there is any corruption in the update files.

Download Media creation Tool from here

Select Download Tool and Run it as an Administrator

On the License terms page, Select Accept

On “What do you want to do? Page, select “Upgrade this PC now“, and the click Next

The tool will start downloading Windows 10. Once the download is complete, it will walk you through the update process

Setup will ask you to enter product Key if you are doing it for the first time. If you are doing upgrades or reinstalling it, you don’t have to enter it. You can Select “I need to buy a Windows 10 product key” if you will be buying it later

When Windows 10 is ready to install, you will see a recap of what you have chosen and what will be kept through the upgrade. Select Change what to keep to set whether you would like to Keep personal files and apps, or Keep personal files only, or choose to keep “Nothing” during the upgrade

Select Install

This will complete the manual upgrade. During the setup process, your system will restart few times

Method 2. Re-install OS and update KB

One of the Users has reported that they were able to get rid of this error, by re-installing the OS and installing KB3159706 and KB2919355.
