Microsoft has improved its Mail app in Windows 10. With considerable improvements, it has become a capable app meeting needs of most Windows users. With this built-in free and easy to use app, you will no longer be needing to go elsewhere and use third party clients or pay for MS Outlook.

Once you are inside the Mail app, you can access mail settings by a clicking or tapping on the gear icon in the left pane of the app window. The Mail app downloads your messages according to your usage. For example, if you read your mail more often, the app will download the messages more often. However, you can change this behavior and specify a frequency to download new messages as well. To customize mailbox sync settings in Mail app in Windows 10, follow this procedure.
Open the Mail app.
Click or tap on the gear icon at the bottom-left side in the Mail app.
A Settings flyout will appear on the right side of the Mail app. Click on Manage Accounts.
A list of accounts will appear. Click the account name you want to change sync settings for.
Click on Change mailbox sync settings.
Tap the dropdown list under Download new content.
Choose how often you want the mail app to check for new messages.
Click Done, and then click Save.
Now, the Mail app will check for new messages according to your specified period.
