We reported yesterday that a leak claimed that Tango Gameworks‘ upcoming game, Hi-Fi Rush, would be demonstrated at today’s Developer_Direct, and sure enough, that’s exactly what happened. But a lot of information was revealed that we didn’t know before.
As expected, Tango announced their next game at the event, but the surprise was that it will be launched the same day. It would be playable on Xbox Series X/S, Windows PC (via and Steam and Epic Games), and is included in Xbox Game Pass.
In the game, you take control of Chai, an aspiring musician who uses musical rhythm to fight a robot’s company. The rhythm is maintained by enemy strikes, cutscenes, and all of the action. The Champion 808 acts as a metronome to ensure that everything stays in time. You’re not obligated to follow the beat, but doing so will earn you some really powerful combos and finishes.
Several other characters eventually join Chai, enhancing the game’s combat mechanisms and allowing for more complex and stylized combos. The icing on top is that not only does Hi-Fi Rush feature its own original soundtrack, but it also features licensed music from bands like Nine Inch Nails, The Black Keys, The Prodigy, The Joy Formidable, Number Girl, Wolfgang Gartner, and Zwan for boss battles.
The developer explains that while they are known for their challenging horror games like “The Evil Within,” they decided to try something different with this release because they wanted to challenge themselves. As a result, the game is presented in a cel-shaded aesthetic and contains a rhythm action system in which players chain together assaults to the beat of the music.
Furthermore, if you purchase the Deluxe Edition of the game, you will receive additional benefits, such as:
- Two Chai outfits
- Seven bonus Chai t-shirts
- 808-Themed Guitar Skin
- 808 Alternate Skin
- 20,000 Gears for unlocking combat skills and other upgrades. (Note: Gears are obtained through combat and exploration in-game and not available as a purchasable currency.)
Players who already own Hi-Fi Rush can also purchase the Deluxe Edition Upgrade, which adds all the additional Deluxe Edition content to your game! Both the Deluxe Edition and the Deluxe Edition upgrade can be purchased via the Microsoft Store.
Tell us what you think of the game and whether or not you plan to give it a shot in the comments below. However, in order to arrive at any conclusions about the game, we will have to wait until we have a chance to actually play it. When compared to other games created by indie developers, this one looks to have a rather original aesthetic.
