Google Responds to Complains About Stadia

It has not even been a week since Google Stadia’s Founder’s Edition release that people have started having issues with it. Perhaps after viewing a couple of Youtubers testing out the service, it was quite clear that the service wasn’t living up to the claims. Not only did it exhibit latency issues but titles didn’t even run at 4K 60 fps as claimed.

The Issues

This was one of the biggest issues of the service. At launch, the company compared the gaming experience to that of consoles, comparing the whopping 10.7TF of graphical performance they could achieve. This was claimed to be achievable with high ended Stadia servers. Perhaps these huge claims did put them in a tough spot. Upon testing out the service, many users complained that the games were streamed at 1080p. The Chromecast Ultra would then just upscale the feed. While this was the case in most games, even their flagship port exhibited similar behavior. Even at a really good internet connection, the game was at 1440p, and the Chromecast upscaling it to 4K.

Upon further investigation, Digital Foundry claimed that the Stadia was only outputting 44 percent of the actual graphical performance of the title (RDR2). This meant that it was pushing fewer pixels than the PS4 Pro.

It should be clear that the PS4 Pro is not the benchmark, even in the console category. The performance is similar to that of an AMD RX570/580. Clearly not in line with the promised 10.7TF of performance. This is an even bigger problem considering people are paying for the Pro subscription for higher bitrate and 5.1 surround sound.

Google’s Response

After the countless complaints regarding the service of the future, Google decided to respond to the situation. According to an article on Euro Gamer, Google gave a statement to answer to all the concerns brought forward. In a long, politically correct and professional manner, the company claimed that it was working with a bunch of companies to optimize the titles for the service.

The statement further continued that developers would continue to work on these titles. They would do so to improve them and their experience. Google claims that with time, the playing experience would be better and the promised numbers would be achievable.

Even though the company does make yet another claim, even the article cited poses this issue. Given that it is a new service, a punchy start would have made things better for the company. Since that is not the case, in my opinion, they would definitely face some backlash and cancellations in orders until the issue is fixed, or the experience made much better.
