Google Adds Background Blur & Replace To Its G Suit Video Client, “Google Meet”

With the amount of social distancing required in today’s time, video conferencing applications have gained popularity once again. While these were usually limited for the corporate world before, the average daily users are making use of them too. It may be to give an interview, conference call your friends or even attend classes. Some of the common products include Zoom, Microsoft Teams and Google Meet. The news today is regarding Google Meet.

Google’s software, in terms of features, is lagging behind the competition. Therefore, in a recent update, they have decided to officially add a bunch of additions that bring it up to par. According to an article from WinFuture, the company has added two of the most demanded features. The idea that users can blur out the background and that they may have the option to change the background altogether.

These features have multiple functionalities. While being a source of amusement and fun (yes, people have made Tik Toks on them), to actually concealing your surroundings, maintaining your privacy. For all you know, you could be sitting in the toilet, attending a meeting with a custom background (please don’t).

The article includes that the G Suite users would be able to avail this new tech for free till September. After which, this would be counted as a premium feature. The features would come to both the phone app and the desktop one which is a good plus. There are a bunch more features expected to roll out soon but Google’s timeline, in this case, cannot be trusted. In the past, we have seen Google Meet take ages for updates. This may be the case this time around as well.
