God Of War TV Series Will Be True to the Source Material, Assures Amazon TV Head

Last week it was confirmed after heavy rumors that Amazon Prime Video is adapting one of the most iconic PlayStation IP as a TV series, God of War. The internet went bonkers after the official announcement as the games themselves are not less than a cinematic and immersive experience with intriguing and emotional storylines to action-packed gameplay.

God of War 2018 and God of War Ragnarök both are action-packed emotional rollercoasters, and what’s better than a good TV show to celebrate this incredible story. However, fans also have some valid concerns about the faithfulness of the TV adaptation of God of War, as some TV shows were not true to the source material and failed to make an impact as significant as the respective source material was known for.

And concerns like these are completely justified as God of War games are fan favorites, and the soft reboot in 2018 was successful due to its storyline and the way the game’s director and writers have expressed it, making both God of War 2018 and God of War Ragnarök a lasting experience.

That is the reason both games are loved by millions and are critically acclaimed, with God of War Ragnarök winning multiple awards at The Game Awards 2022 and God of War 2018 winning The Game of The Year Award in 2018. However, the fans will be happy to know that Amazon Studios’ Head of Television Vernon Sanders, in an interview with Collider, has assured the fans that the tv show on God of War series will be true to the source material and the showrunners will respect the integrity of the games. Sanders, in the interview, said:

We do incredibly well with adaptations, from Invincible to The Boys. I mean, we just covered so many of them, right? And so we know that there’s such a passionate fan base for God of War. But the thing that we’re always looking for is whether there is a real emotional core, if there’s a real narrative story, and I think that’s part of what makes God of War so special.

At the center of it all is this story of fathers and sons, and families, set against this giant epic landscape. So what Rafe Judkins and Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby have come up with for the first season, and for the series, I think, is both incredibly true to the source material and also compelling on its own. If you never played the game, you will fall in love with the show and feel very much invited in. So we think it’s going to be huge.”

Undoubtedly these points are completely understandable as Amazon Prime Video has a very impressive track record of adapting books and comics as TV series and TV shows like Invincible, The Boys and The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power are a few names that are considered to be one of the best comics and books TV adaptations.

Now the fans expect the same standard with the God of War TV series from Amazon Prime Video. And Sanders has made it more clear if it was not before that the God of War TV series will certainly be true to the source material.

As for the release date of the TV show, I am afraid it is still a long wait for the fans as it will take some time to deliver such an anticipated series to the screens, and the studio has to make sure that the series fulfills the fans’ expectations.
